Warren & Butler County Trails

In the fall of 2006, a 4-mile section of trail opened from the sotuhern Montgomery County line through the city of Franklin in Warren County. A 24-mile extension of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail is planned from Baxter Drive at State route 73 in Franklin to the city of Hamilton, but some of the trail still requires funding and land acquisition.

The Great Miami River Recreation Trail follow the Great Miami River and the towpath of the Miami and Erie Canal through Warren and Butler counties through the cities of Franklin, Middletown, Hamilton and Fairfield.

Franklin: The trail is just a block from downtown and passes remnants of the historic hydraulic headgates and dam as well as the historic log cabin post office, amazing murals in downtown and historic homes.

Middletown: Users will view wide open vistas of the river's floodway, water birds wading in the river's shallows, perhaps catch a glimpse of a fox, and pass Bicentennial Commons Park. Downtown is only a few blocks off of the trail.

Hamilton: Attractions and sites to see and visit include a wildlife preserve, art exhibits and events at the Fitton Center, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument at Main and High Bridge, and the expansive Joyce Park with baseball and soccer fields as well as a model airplane field.
